Why dreams

What happens while you sleep.

  1. 01

You dream four to six times a night.

Most nights hold four to six stretches of REM sleep. People who say they never dream mostly don’t remember.

  2. 02

By breakfast, most of it is gone.

Writing down even one line straight away is the surest way to keep more.

  3. 03

Things from your day come back a week later.

Something that happened on Monday often turns up in a dream five to seven days later. Researchers call it the dream-lag effect.

  4. 04

People can answer questions from inside a dream.

In 2021, sleepers who knew they were dreaming answered researchers’ yes-or-no questions with their eyes.

How we read dreams

Your dreams are made of your own days.

A dream about a house is built from houses you know. So reading it starts with your life: what was going on, who was there, how it felt. Not with a list of what houses mean.

Three rules we keep

  • We start from your life, not from a list of symbols.
  • Every reading is one possibility. Never a verdict.
  • When research says something, we say it’s research. When an old tradition says something, we say that too.

Inside an issue

One question, four short parts.

Each issue follows one question about dreams. Written by Nikita, with every source linked.

The house you keep dreaming about

  1. 01 · What research knows

Dreams are built from memory. Places you know come back rearranged: an extra room, a door that was never there.

  2. 02 · One perspective

Jung once dreamt of a house, floor below floor, down to a cave. He read it as a picture of his own mind. One reading, not a rule.

  3. 03 · A question for you

Whose house is it? And what was happening in your life the first time it appeared?

  4. 04 · Strange but true

People blind from birth dream too. Their dreams are made of sound, touch and smell.

Questions

Before you subscribe.

Will you tell me what my dream means?
Not as a verdict. Each issue shows a few ways a dream could be read and asks questions only you can answer. The reading that fits usually comes from your own life.
Do I need to remember my dreams?
No. Some issues are about exactly that: how to remember more.
Who writes it?
Nikita. I read the research and the long history of people reading their dreams, and every two weeks I write down what I found. Reply to any issue and I read it.
Is Psyke an app?
Not yet. A dream journal app comes later. Subscribers hear first.
